Military History/Civil War Class Page
Military History/Civil War is a weighted elective course offered to Juniors & Seniors. It is considered an intense study of the causes as well as the impact human conflict has made on history. Of particular interest is the analysis of how warfare has affected politics, technology, social class and the development of nations throughout history. Students experience a "college style" classroom, where formulating opinions and defending arguments is more critical than simple memory development. Pedagogy includes lecture, collaborative exercises, reading comprehension activities, information gathering skills and writing drills. The goal of the course is the promote critical thought while gaining a deep understanding of the world. As stated in the syllabus, it is my hope that students leave the class feeling a sense of accomplishment that is all too rare in the high school classroom.
